About the Opportunity
Community Members serve on Correctional Supervision and Parole Boards, where they help make fair and balanced decisions regarding offenders who may qualify for parole or correctional supervision.
Successful candidates become part of an independent decision-making panel that promotes rehabilitation while protecting the interests of victims, communities, and the State. These appointments are not traditional full-time government jobs but statutory board positions.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have:
- A recognized Degree or National Diploma in one of the following:
- Criminal Justice
- Community Development
- Social Sciences
- Policing
- Human Rights or a related field
- At least 5 years’ experience in community development and/or the criminal justice environment.
- Previous decision-making experience will be an added advantage.
- Retired professionals are encouraged to apply.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful Community Members will:
- Participate in Parole Board hearings.
- Assist in making parole and correctional supervision decisions.
- Promote successful offender reintegration into communities.
- Protect the interests of victims, the public, offenders, and the State.
- Ensure fair and objective application of parole legislation.
- Maintain confidentiality during all Board proceedings.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Board.
